Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: Growing up the son of a nurse and a teacher, I learned early the importance of providing a useful service to my community. Combined with my lifelong love of science, this made a career in medicine a natural choice. What I want my patients to know about me: I believe strongly in the importance of practicing evidence-based medicine. This means that I make recommendations based on the best evidence available from well-designed studies and trials, and I strive to keep myself updated on the latest research. I also believe it is critical for patients to be well-informed, and personally involved in making decisions regarding their care.
