I strongly believe that a neurosurgeon's ultimate responsibility is to ensure the safety of the patients under his care. In my opinion, this is best achieved with strict attention to detail and adherence to community standards of care. I also believe in open and honest communication between the doctor and the patient. Oftentimes, especially in the field of neurosurgery, there are many different potential treatments or surgeries for a given condition. I therefore think it is essential to incorporate the patient's desires into any treatment or surgical plan, especially after a thorough discussion outlining all of the treatment options.
