Neurosurgeon and renowned researcher Dr. James Markert is the inaugural chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he has been a faculty member since 1996. His clinical practice focuses on the treatment of benign and malignant brain tumors with a special interest in glioblastoma. Dr. Markert’s commitment to excellence is evident in his comprehensive training, from his Harvard University undergraduate education, graduate and medical degree from Columbia University, general surgery internship and neurosurgical residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center and subsequent molecular neurosurgery research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.
